A Taste of Autumn: Trying the Matsutake-Flavored Premium Cup Noodles
Hello! Today, I’m reviewing Nissin’s latest product: "Matsutake-Flavored Premium Cup Noodles." This cup noodle creatively captures the essence of Japan’s autumn. For those of you outside Japan, I hope this review gives you a glimpse of the unique flavors Japanese instant noodles can offer!
Elegant Aroma from the Special Oil
After adding hot water and waiting three minutes, I poured in the special matsutake-flavored oil. Immediately, the room was filled with the rich aroma of matsutake mushrooms! It’s incredible how such a simple cup noodle can evoke such a luxurious scent—like enjoying a bit of autumn in Japan.
A Rich Yet Balanced Broth
Compared to the regular soy-sauce-based Cup Noodles, this broth felt slightly richer. However, the matsutake aroma made the richness enjoyable, and the flavors remained well-balanced throughout. The deep umami and fragrant taste kept me engaged with every sip, making it a satisfying experience.
“Almost Matsutake” – A Clever Twist
One interesting surprise was the "almost matsutake," which turned out to be seasoned king oyster mushrooms (eringi). At first, I thought it was real matsutake, but I later realized it was flavored to mimic that experience. Despite being eringi, the broth extracted excellent umami, making it just as delightful.
Interestingly, eringi mushrooms were once considered a luxury ingredient before mass production techniques were developed. Knowing this adds an extra layer of appreciation for the broth’s depth and richness.
A Convenient Yet Indulgent Meal
Cup noodles like these offer the perfect blend of convenience and indulgence. They are great for solo meals when you want something quick but flavorful. The matsutake-flavored oil adds depth to the broth, making the meal feel special, even when eaten casually.
Coming Soon to Oyatsu Club!
I’m also excited to share that we plan to include instant cup noodles and yakisoba like this one in the "Oyatsu Club" snack boxes. Our goal is to bring Japan’s unique and seasonal flavors to everyone around the world, so stay tuned for these exciting additions!
This Matsutake-Flavored Premium Cup Noodle offers a taste of Japan’s seasonal delights in a compact package. Although it might be hard to find outside Japan, specialty shops and online stores may carry it. If you ever get the chance, give it a try!
